چکیده
To understand the influence of cowpea on its rhizosphere physicochemical and biological conditions. Pristine soil samples were contaminated with Bonny-Light crude oil viable seeds planted to establish soil. Cowpea root exudates collected characterized while metabolic activities, properties effect monitored following plant emergence. composed organic acids, phenolics, carbohydrates hydrocarbons. High rate respiration microbial biomass carbon observed in reaching peak 12th week (70.56 mgCO2g?1 day?1) 10th (23.18 mg/Kg) respectively. Lower rates respirations (10.28 day?1; 1.24 uncontaminated (0.23 0.37 non-rhizosphere control soils The positively correlated matter contents size (r = 0.98; p < 0.05). There was considerable improvement as compared Microbial populations generally improved positive values (> 1) presumably due presence compounds that promote growth. results highlighted conditions which is a good indication for ability growth environmental cleanup. Therefore, there need further community dynamics using culture-independent techniques.

Ecotoxicity of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soil.
Soil samples from a former cokery site polluted with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were assessed for their toxicity to terrestrial and aquatic organisms and for their mutagenicity. The total concentration of the 16 PAHs listed as priority pollutants by the US Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) was 2634+/-241 mg/kgdw in soil samples. The toxicity of water-extractable pollutants f...
متن کاملDiversity of Biosurfactant-producing Streptomyces Isolates from Hydrocarbon-contaminated Soil
Actinomycetes are unsurpassed as producers of bioactive metabolites, primarily those with antimicrobial/anticancer properties; however, their capacity for producing other natural products such as biosurfactants, has been less explored. Biosurfactants are heterogeneous surface active compounds and can be potentially deployed for bioremediation of hydrocarbons and as emulsifying agents in agricul...
متن کاملSelection of Biosurfactan/Bioemulsifier-Producing Bacteria From Hydrocarbon-Contaminated Soil
Petroleum-derived hydrocarbons are among the most persistent soil contaminants, and some hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms can produce biosurfactants to increase bioavailability and degradation. The aim of this work was to identify biosurfactant-producing bacterial strains isolated from hydrocarbon-contaminated sites, and to evaluate their biosurfactant properties. The drop-collapse method a...
متن کاملRhizoremediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil using Australian native grasses.
Rhizoremediation involves the breakdown of contaminants in soil resulting from microbial activity that is enhanced in the plant root zone. The objective of this study was to assess Australian native grasses for their ability to stimulate removal of aliphatic hydrocarbons from a mine site soil. Time-course pot experiments were conducted in a greenhouse with three grass species (Cymbopogon ambigu...
متن کاملBiological Activity of Autochthonic Bacterial Community in Oil-Contaminated Soil
Soil microbial communities play an important role in the biodegradation of different petroleum derivates, including hydrocarbons. Also other biological factors such as enzyme and respiration activities and microbial abundance are sensitive to contamination with petroleum derivates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of autochthonic microbial community and biological parameters (...
